Ostracon, Athens, 471 BC, Leagros, son of GlaukonAbstract
The Athenian Leagros, son of Glaucon, is addressed as βάσκανος on a shard of an ostracism from 471 BC. The article explores the question of what this dark term meant. In the beginning, the contribution tests both a political and a religious interpretation based on contemporary evidence. Concluding the piece did not testify to any sacred meaning, the final part of the paper is devoted to the contextualization of the shard in the political culture of Athenian democracy in the 5th century BCE.
