The rediscovery of the funerary altar of the sculptor Novius Blesamus in Rome (CIL VI, 23083; CLE 1254) provides an opportunity to give a comprehensive edition of the monument and a commentary on the various aspects of the funerary epigraphic poem engraved on it: the status and activity of the deceased, the source of his pride; the bucolic atmosphere of the environment of the tomb which is evoked; the erasure of a verse of the text.
