Il κόλλυβος è un sottomultiplo del χαλκοῦς?

Abstract

In this paper I discuss the problem of the subdivisions of the chalcous Thanks to a testimony so far ignored, (Photius K 391 Theod.), I argue that 1) it is not true, as stated in the past, that we have no evidence of a fraction of the χαλκοῦς; and 2) if this fraction were to identify with the kollybos, it would be worth 1/6, not 1/4 of a chalcus, as stated by most of those who see a direct relationship between the two coins.
