The article discusses an epitaph from Aphrodisias (IAph 2007 12.526, 3rd - possibly ca. mid. 3rd c. CE). The founder of the funerary monument, Apollonios, exploited a combination of visual and legal means in order to construct his commemoration. The distinctiveness of Apollonios’ case is traced in the way with which he linked his legal regulations with two boards of civic magistrates, the temple builders and the councillors. Thus he broadened the impact of his regulations and linked them with the city.
