This paper restores to attention a funerary inscription for Vedia Kalliste that Richard Chandler published in 1774. It has since been ‘lost’, not appearing in any of the standard epigraphic corpora. I propose an emended text, and suggest that Vedia Kalliste was related to P. Vedius Pollio’s freedmen, who immigrated to Ephesos in the late 1st c. BCE. Her tomb was located in the east necropolis of Ephesos, near tombs of the other early Vedii. These were dismantled in 1st c. CE and reused in the renovation of the Stadium.
