Abstract

Being so far perceived as a minor event of the Gracchan period, the historical appraisal of the lex Papiria de tribunis reficiendis is still due. Beside the placement of this tribunician rogation in its historical context the purpose of this paper is to elucidate the constitutional and political problems linked with this legislative initiative. A further focus lies on the motives of both actors, Scipio and Papirius Carbo.
