Abstract

This paper is concerned with the Caristanii family. An origin and position of one of the member of this gens (C. Caristanius Fronto) a well-known producer of amphorae Dressel 6A, have so far been uncertain. The reconstruction of the fragment of the pontifices plaque from Sutrium in Etruria (CIL XI 3254) might reveal, that he had been an inhabitant performing a function of pontifex and that the Caristanii from this city had been actively involved in ceramic production during the first decades of Principate.
