Fragment einer hocharchaischen Bronzetafel aus Olympia mit Nennung der Eleer und des Mantis-Amtes (BrU 8)

Abstract

A very fragmented bronze sheet from Olympia mentions the Eleans, the mantis (seer) of the sanctuary and the proxenos. The inscription is dated to 550-525 B.C. on the basis of its letter-forms. The cooperation of mantis and proxenos is confirmed by IvO 10 at Olympia and by Euripides at Delphi, but apparently nowhere else. It may be related to the oracle at these two panhellenic sites.
