Abstract

In 2011 a Greek dipinto mentioning the “camp of Trimithis” was uncovered on a wall of a large bathhouse located at Trimithis (modern Amheida) in the Dakhla Oasis.  It represents the first explicit textual evidence for the Roman garrison of Trimithis. This article publishes the dipinto and surveys additional references to the Roman military in texts from the site.
