Abstract

Faustina was the first member of the domus Augusta who was honoured with the title mater castrorum and therefore patron of the Roman forts. Even after her death she was adored as mater castrorum responsible for the protection of the castrum and its soldiers. This phenomenon is a typical example of the influence on the religious activity within the Roman army due to the threat at the borders in the 3rd century.
