Abstract

The Thirty Tyrants pursued a policy on the basis of selection and exclusion not only of the lower middle class of the hoplites but also of the Athenian upper class. From the καλοὶ καὶ ἀγαψοί only those who are reliable supporters of the oligarchy were allowed to join the political inner circus. But still the oligarchs had to be tolerant towards the aristocrats.
