Abstract

According to the Notitia Dignitatum almost all officia of the military governor had no regular cornicularius. However, the epigraphic and papyrological evidence shows that the late antique army had a cornicularius as miles administrans for the organisation of the supply at least in some units. Cod. Theod. 7, 4, 32 documents a cornicularius in the office of the civilian governor of the provinces responsible for the supply.
